Gibson Les Paul Goldtop 1955 original
Up for sale is an original vintage Gibson Les Paul Goldtop from 1955. It is the most resonant electric guitar I’ve ever had in my hands and it sounds out of this world, very creamy, woody and open. The neck is not as huge as you might expect from a ’55, more like a ’58 profile and is very comfortable to play. It weights 4175 grams. The top is 3 piece maple with a 1 piece (!) mahogany back. Neck is mahogany with Brazilian rosewood 12′ fingerboard, frets are 9/10 and have been replaced somewhere in the last 10 years and looks like a pro-job. Pickups are original, the measure 8.57 ohms, neck 9.82 ohms and are in phase. Original tuners. It plays nice and with, if desired, low action. Guitar is now setup with Ernie Ball 0.11 – 0.48. The original case is included!
The guitar has had a pro-fixed crackline (not entirely broken, the line is visible) in the headstock and appears to be stable. The original bridge is no longer with the guitar and has been replaced with a lightweight repro. The pots and caps have been removed in the early seventies and replaced by new ones, all pots date 1973. The guitar is wired with just one volume (the upper, neck one) for easy control. If you would like the original wiring scheme back we, off course, can do this for you with new caps of your choice.
This Les Paul has been in the Netherlands for a while and was once owned by Wild Romance guitarist David Hollestelle and was used on several albums and tracks as it was also owned and used in the famous Wisseloord Studio’s, Hilversum.
This is a fantastic guitar to play and own. A save investment but even more a truly inspiring guitar.
