About acoustic guitars
There is no doubt about it; the acoustic guitar is a beautiful instrument. A true classic. But what makes an acoustic guitar.. Well.. and acoustic guitar? The answer to this question lies in its construction, as it is a guitar which only uses an acoustic soundboard - in other words, the top of an acoustic guitar. This helps to transmit the energy of the guitar strings into the air, which produces the instrument’s signature sound. Acoustic guitars also have a hollow body which resonates sound and increases the instruments efficiency of picking up and amplifying lower frequencies. The reason different acoustic guitars have different sound profiles is due to the mix of tonewoods, bracing, and soundboards used during the building process.
It is important to make a distinction between the two main varieties of acoustic guitars, which are the classical, nylon-stringed guitar, and the steel-string acoustic guitar. Steel-string acoustics, which are descendants from the classical guitar, generally produce a bringer, louder sound. Both variants often use the dreadnought shape, which was originally developed by C.F. Martin & Company. That being said, you will find several different brands on the market today which opt for using different body shapes, such as the larger jumbo body, the smaller auditorium (000) body, or an even smaller grand concert (00) body. Whichever body shape is used will contribute to the signature sound profile of an acoustic guitar.
